“Your loss is part of…”- Virat Kohli breaks silence of Chinnaswamy Stadium stampede during RCB victory parade

Finally speaking out, Virat Kohli discussed the disastrous stampede that shook the RCB victory celebration in Bengaluru on June 4, 2025. Nearly three months after the terrible event that marred what should have been the happiest day in the franchise's history, the former RCB captain—who typically keeps his emotions to himself—took to social media.

The purpose of RCB's June 4 grand triumph parade at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium was to commemorate their first-ever championship. The team organized a festival for the supporters less than twenty-four hours after defeating the Punjab Kings in Ahmedabad. But there was mayhem instead of applause.

Things got out of hand when more than 3 to 5 lakh supporters arrived without the necessary security measures. Eleven people were killed and over fifty injured in the fatal stampede that resulted from the mob crush. The day became one of the saddest periods in Indian cricket fandom, even though it was meant to be RCB's lap of honor.

Virat Kohli, who typically lets his bat do the talking, let his guard down and spoke honestly for once. The tempest hasn't ended yet, despite Kohli and RCB's statements and deeds. The legal process is still in progress.

“Nothing in life really prepares you for a heartbreak like June 4th. What should’ve been the happiest moment in our franchise’s history… turned into something tragic. I’ve been thinking of and praying for the families of those we lost… and for our fans who were injured. Your loss is part of our story now. Together, we will move forward with care, respect, and responsibility,” Kohli’s statement read as posted by RCB.

The Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT) and the Karnataka government have previously declared that RCB was mostly to blame, citing the franchise's failure to obtain police approval for such a large gathering.
