Indian batting mainstays Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli have received appreciation from Afghanistan's all-rounder Gulbadin Naib, who is presently playing for the reigning champions Dubai Capitals in the International League T20 (ILT20). Both players should play in all three forms for at least the next four years, according to Naib.
His remarks followed Kohli's rise to the second position in the most recent ICC Men's ODI rankings, while Rohit remained at the top. Following Team India's victory in the T20 World Cup 2024 and Test cricket earlier this year, the two announced their retirement from the shortest format.
While speaking to ANI Naib, said, "Both of them are very big players [Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli]. I can only say one thing. I won't talk much about it. They should play in all three formats for at least four years."
After his outstanding recent performance for India in the three-match ODI series against South Africa, Kohli closed in on the top spot once more. Due to his 302 runs in all three games, the 37-year-old was named Player of the Series.
After his undefeated innings of 65 not out in the series finale in Visakhapatnam, Kohli came within eight rating points of Rohit, who accumulated 146 runs during the Proteas series to maintain his position at the top of the rankings.
In addition, the cricket player from Nagpur became the fourth Indian to reach 20,000 runs in international cricket. The other three players on the all-time international lists are Rahul Dravid (24,064 runs), Kohli (27,910 runs), and Sachin Tendulkar (34,257 runs).
Naib, who currently plays for the Dubai Capitals, the reigning champions in the International League T20 (ILT20), acknowledged the burden of winning, pointing out that the squad must perform well and live up to their championship because the media and supporters have great expectations.
The Capitals, the reigning champions, have had a difficult tournament start; with just one victory in three games, they are presently fourth in the standings. On Saturday, the Capitals will play the Abu Dhabi Knight Riders at Dubai's Sheikh Zayed Stadium.
