Post India’s woebegone exit in the knockouts of the 20-20 World Cup 2022, reports emerged claiming that the Indian cricket board is looking for split captaincy and the Indian allrounder Hardik Pandya, who is leading the team for the T20I series against New Zealand, might as well become India’s permanent captain in the shortest format of the game.

Rohit Sharma, India’s all-format captain, is highly likely to be sacked as T20I captain and the Indian cricket board might as well rope in a new coach for the format alone. MS Dhoni, the former Indian captain, is reportedly set to join team India in some capacity.

The Indian cricket board sacked the entire selection committee led by Chetan Sharma, on the back of India’s poor outings in multinational tournaments of late. For the unversed, while England crushed India in the knockouts of the 20-20 World Cup 2022, India failed to qualify for the finals in the Asia Cup held in September.

India hoping to set things right

Things have not been going the way that they would want to in marquee tournaments and the Men in Blue are hoping to set things right. While inviting the applicants, the secretary of the Indian cricket board put up the requirements to fill the 5 vacancies for national selectors.

The applicant should have either played 7 Test matches, or 30 First Class matches, or 10 ODIs and 20 First Class matches. The Indian cricket board is looking to bring things back on track and fans hope that India would make a strong comeback in the upcoming 50-over World Cup to be played in India in 2023.

It remains to see if Rohit would be sacked as captain from all formats, although it is pretty clear that he is all set to be sacked as team India skipper from the shortest format of the game.
