Rohit Sharma managed to lead team India to another series victory as they defeated Australia at home in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. In the series, India defeated the Aussies by 2-1 and now, the Men in Blue will be in action against the Aussies in a three-match ODI series. The first match will take place in Mumbai on 17 March.
But, Rohit Sharma will not be available for the series opener as Hardik Pandya will be the skipper. When the team India selectors announced the squad for the series, they confirmed that Rohit will not play the first match he will be available for the next two matches. Now, reports have come out that Rohit will attend his brother-in-law’s marriage. That is why he is going to miss the first match.
Rohit Sharma scored 242 runs in six innings of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy
Listening to such a report, fans were not happy and they came up with some funny tweets to troll the team India skipper. They claimed that it is quite unacceptable for a player to skip a match just to attend a marriage. Meanwhile, after winning the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Ahmedabad, Rohit said that they were happy with the result. He also expressed his views on the century scored by Kohli in the last Test as it was his first Test ton after a long gap of 1205 days.
Rohit Sharma said: "We are happy with the result. We could have made it 3-1 though. When you play against Australia, it is always difficult to win. We faced a lot of challenges from Nagpur to Ahmedabad. Even here in Ahmedabad, the pitch was not helpful to bowlers for the first two days. He has played more than 100 Tests and scored a lot of runs and centuries. For a player like him, it is about playing some good innings. We saw that in white-ball cricket. He got that century in Asia Cup and never looked back. Hopefully, it will be the same in red-ball cricket."
Here is how fans have reacted to the reports of Rohit Sharma missing the first ODI for attending marriage:
