‘Usko century toh karne deta’ - Fans react as RR hand humiliating defeat to KKR by 9 wickets in IPL 2023

On 11 May 2023, the stage was set at Eden Gardens, Kolkata as Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) took on Rajasthan Royals (RR) in the ongoing IPL. KKR were coming off after two victories and hence, the team were looking for another win in front of the home crowd. Both teams were tied with 10 points.

Speaking of the match, the RR skipper, Sanju Samson won the toss and asked KKR to bat first. For KKR, Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Jason Roy came out to bat first. But, both openers got out early as KKR lost both of them for 29 runs in 4.1 overs. Gurbaz scored 18 runs off 12 balls and Roy scored 10 runs off eight balls. 

KKR suffered a humiliating defeat against RR by nine wickets

Then, Venkatesh Iyer scored a fifty before getting out on 57 runs off 42 balls, including two fours and four sixes. Then, Nitish Rana scored 22 runs off 17 balls, including two fours. After that, other batters came up with some small contributions as KKR scored 149 runs for eight wickets in 20 overs. For RR, Yuzvendra Chahal took four wickets and he also became the highest wicket-taker in the history of IPL. Along with him, Boult took two wickets while both Asif and Sandeep Sharma took one wicket.

Then, for the chase, Yashasvi Jaiswal came up to open the innings along with Jos Buttler. But, Buttler got run out after a three-ball duck. But, Jaiswal was in a different mood as he smashed KKR bowlers all around the park. He also smashed fifty in just 13 balls and became the fastest player to score a fifty in the history of IPL. Finally, he remained not out on 98* runs off 47 balls, including 12 fours and five sixes. Skipper Sanju Samson also scored 48* runs off 29 balls, including two fours and five sixes. Thus, RR chased down the target in just 13.1 overs and Jaiswal won the Player of the Match award.
