India had a horrible day one in the ongoing World Test Championship (WTC) final on 7 June 2023 at the Oval as Australia scored 327 runs for three wickets in 85 overs. Both Travis Head and Steve Smith remained not out. Indian bowlers had a terrible day as they only managed to take three wickets.

On day two, Indian bowlers were looking to take the rest of the wickets quickly. But, Rohit Sharma got involved in a funny incident with the umpire on the field over a DRS call. Several images and videos went viral instantly with the cheeky way of avoiding a DRS call from the Indian captain. However, some fans were not happy and they slammed the skipper on social media.

The incident took place during the 97th over of the match. On the last delivery of that over, Mohammed Shami trapped Alex Carey on the crease. They appealed for an LBW but the umpire showed no interest. Then, Rohit was seen going for a DRS but at the last moment, he did not complete the gesture for the review and avoided it. However, umpires and some fans were left confused. But, ultimately, India did not take the review regarding that decision. However, the former Team India coach, Ravi Shastri was not happy with Rohit and his tactics on day one.

While speaking to Star Sports, he said: "Once you had picked the team, it's fine - Ashwin played or not and that you fielded. But you could have been tactically much sounder after that. Siraj and Shami had to bowl their second spells in the first session. They gave too long spells to Shami and Siraj at the start. You know they have not played first-class cricket for three or four months and it will be difficult to bowl the entire day. The thinking should have been that this pitch will improve once the sun comes out, so they should have been preserved and used at the right time.”
