Australian keeper-batter Josh Inglis and star spinner Adam Zampa have been ruled out of the first ODI against India, which is scheduled to take place on Sunday, October 19 at New Perth Stadium in Perth.
While Inglis is yet to recover from his calf strain, which saw him miss the previous New Zealand T20I tour, Zampa will miss the first ODI due to personal reasons. On the other hand, Alex Carey has already been released from the first ODI to play the Sheffield Shield game against Queensland.
NSW keeper-batter Josh Philippe has been called up to keep the wickets for the first ODI against India. Notably, this will be his first ODI since Australia tour of West Indies way back in 2021.
On the other hand, Matthew Kuhnemann will make his comeback to the ODI squad in place of Zampa and could play his first ODI since 2022 with allrounders Matt Short and Cooper Connolly the only other spinners in the squad.
Kuhnemann has toured with Australia's white-ball squads since the T20I series against the West Indies in July this year but has only featured once, in the second T20 in Jamaica.
While Inglis is expected to rejoin the ODI squad for the third ODI in Sydney on October 25, Zampa is expected to make his return ahead of the second ODI on October 23. Also, Carey is expected to rejoin the squad in Adelaide ahead of the second game.
Australia’s first ODI squad vs India: Mitchell Marsh (c), Xavier Bartlett, Cooper Connolly, Ben Dwarshuis, Nathan Ellis, Cameron Green, Josh Hazlewood, Travis Head, Mitchell Owen, Matthew Renshaw, Matthew Short, Mitchell Starc, Matthew Kuhnemann, Josh Philippe (wk).
