Hyderabad have registered its fourth win after beating Punjab by 7 wickets on Sunday to reach the fourth position on the points table. Chasing a target of 152 runs on a slow wicket, Hyderabad needed a good start with the bat.

However, Kane Williamson, once again, struggled to make an impact with the bat. Kagiso Rabada had him caught at mid-off for just 3 runs in 9 balls. However, Rahul Tripathi and Abhishek Sharma then led a pretty good recovery.

The duo stitched a fifty-plus partnership for the second wicket to set a great foundation. Rahul Tripathi, once again, was looking good but couldn’t stay till the end this time around. He got out in the 9th over while trying to hit Rahul Chahar over long off. He scored 34 runs in 22 balls, a knock which was laced with 4 fours and 1 six. Rahul Chahar then accounted for the wicket of Abhishek Sharma in his very next over to keep the game evenly poised.

Hyderabad were at 77 for 3 after 10.3 overs. However, Nicholas Pooran and Aiden Markram then exhibited a sensational partnership and didn’t allow Punjab to come back into the game. The duo stayed unbeaten and take the team home in 18.5 overs. Aiden Markram, yet again, played a stellar unbeaten knock of 41 runs in 27 balls, while Nicholas Pooran also remained unbeaten at 35 off 30 deliveries. Punjab’s bowling unit fought hard but there weren’t enough runs on the board to defend.

Earlier, Bangalore restricted Punjab to just 151 runs in the first innings. Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Marco Jansen didn’t allow Punjab to get a great start in the powerplay. Bhuvneshwar sent Shikhar Dhawan back to the hut in the 3rd over itself, and Jansen accounted for the wicket of Prabhsimran in the fifth over. Punjab were reeling at 33 for 2 after 5 overs. Bairstow too didn’t stay for too long as he got out in the 7th over off Suchith to leave Punjab in trouble at 48 for 3. Jitesh’s wicket in the 8th over meant Punjab were 71 for 4 in 8.

However, Shahrukh Khan then joined hands with Liam Livingstone to lead a remarkable recovery. Livingstone played another stellar knock of 60 runs in 33 balls but Khan struggled his way to 26 off 28 balls. The duo added 71 runs for the fifth wicket. However, once Liam Livingstone got out in the 19th over, Punjab couldn’t score a single run in the last over. Umran Malik bowled a maiden last over and picked three wickets to deny Punjab get a finish strong.
