A top-class bowling effort backed by some clever batting helped Delhi Capitals beat Mumbai Indians by 6 wickets. Chasing 138, Delhi Capitals showed no urgency and took their time to knock off the runs. They lost Prithvi Shaw early but Shikhar Dhawan carried on his top run with the bat. He along with Steve Smith added 53 runs for the second wicket. Dhawan added another 36 runs with Lalit Yadav(22) to almost seal the game for Delhi. Shikhar Dhawan fell for 45 while Steve Smith fetched himself a 29 ball 33.
Earlier, Rohit Sharma had no hesitations in batting first. However, the start wasn’t a pleasing one as they lost Quinton de Kock in the second over to Marcus Stoinis for one. Suryakymar Yadav came, played some crisp shots but soon departed for 24. His wicket triggered a collapse as Mumbai lost their next five wickets for 17 runs and were tottering at 84-6 in the 12th over.
It seems that Rohit Sharma has taken the responsibility of playing through the innings. However, despite getting starts, he is unable to play those big knocks. Once again, he departed for a solid 44. Hardik Pandya’s miseries with the bat continued as he was dismissed for a first-ball duck.
Playing his first game of the IPL 2021, Jayant Yadav played a little cameo of 23 off 22 balls and stitched a crucial 39 run partnership for the 7th wicket with Ishan Kishan (26 off 28), helping Mumbai post a respectable 137. However, it was nowhere near the score Mumbai would have wanted after opting to bat. Amit Mishra made full use of the damp conditions and picked up 4 wickets.
