On 29 January 2023, team India locked horns with the Kiwis in the second game of the ongoing three-match T20I series. After losing the first match in Ranchi, India were looking to win the match in Lucknow. However, in the first match, the Men in Blue suffered a batting collapse at the start of chasing 177 runs.

On the eve of the series opener, skipper Hardik Pandya said that Shubman Gill and Ishan Kishan will open for India. In the pre-match conference, he said: “Shubman has done well and will start the series. The way he is batting and was already in the team.” So, fans were hoping for some good performances from this new and young opening pair.

Ishan Kishan scored only 19 runs off 32 balls in the second T20I against New Zealand

But, Ishan Kishan has failed to score big runs in both matches so far. In the first match, he scored four runs off five balls, including one four. While, in the second match, Ishan scored 19 runs off 32 balls, including two fours. However, both pitches were tricky as the ball was spinning from the first over only. In the first match, Mitchell Bracewell bamboozled him with his off-spin as he knocked off his off-stump. In the second match, Ishan was looking set for a solid knock while chasing only 100 runs. But, he got run out courtesy of Glenn Phillips and Mitchell Santner.

In the last five T20Is, Ishan Kishan has scored 63 runs at an average of 12.60. In the last ODI of 2022, he smashed a double century. So, fans were hoping to see him in such a terrific form in the shortest format of the game also. But, Ishan Kishan has failed to deliver in this format in recent matches for India. Not even the score, but his strike rate has become a headache for the team and fans also. In the second T20I, he batted at a strike rate of 59.37. Hence, fans slammed him and criticized Ishan Kishan for his slow innings against the Kiwis in Lucknow.

Here is how fans have reacted to the slow innings played by Ishan Kishan in the second T20I:
