Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) had a disappointing end to IPL 2023 after suffering a defeat against Gujarat Titans (GT) in their last game of the group stage. Hence, it was another heartbreaking moment for RCB fans as their dream to see RCB lifting the IPL trophy for the first time in the tournament’s history broke again.
However, Dinesh Karthik had a forgettable tournament with the bat. His dismal form was one of the reasons behind RCB’s failure this season. On 23 May 2023, Karthik came up with a ‘Thank You’ post on Twitter for RCB fans. But, fans came up and slammed him over his performance in the tournament.

Dinesh Karthik managed four ducks in IPL 2023
Speaking of the tweet, Karthik wrote: “We couldn’t live up to the expectations and the results didn’t go our way. The chase for the dream shall continue….Thanks to all the fans who stand tall with the us through thick and thin…you mean the world to us always! #RCB #PlayBold #Classof2023 #IPL2023.” In IPL 2022, Karthik had a dream season with the bat in the middle order for RCB as he scored 330 runs in 16 matches, at an average of 55 and a strike rate of 183.33. He remained not out 10 times and played some match-deciding knocks in crunch situations.
It also helped him to earn a call to Team India as he played in the 20-20 World Cup in 2022. So, fans were hoping for another top season from this veteran wicketkeeper. But, this year, he scored only 140 runs in 13 matches, including four ducks. Even, after the loss against GT, RCB skipper Faf du Plessis also issued middle-order woes throughout the season. During the post-match presentation, he said: “Last year DK had a purple patch and was finishing games left, right and centre, but this season it wasn’t to be. And if you see the teams that succeed they have some good hitters at five at six probably six and seven.”
