‘Trophy ke right side me khade hone se bhi kuch nahi hua’ - Fans congratulate Australia for defeating India by 209 runs in WTC 2023 final

The stage was set at the Oval for the final of the World Test Championship (WTC) 2021-23 cycle between India and Australia. Rohit Sharma won the toss and opted to bowl first. While batting first, the Aussies got bundled out for 469 runs in 121.3 overs. Travis Head was the star of the show with 163 runs off 174 balls, including 25 fours and one six.

For India, Mohammed Siraj took four wickets. Then, the Men in Blue got bundled out for 296 runs in their first innings in 69.4 overs. Thus, the Aussies got a lead of 173 runs. Ajinkya Rahane was the star with the bat as he scored 89 runs off 129 balls, including 11 fours and one six.

Australia defeated India by 209 runs in WTC 2023 final

For Australia, Pat Cummins took two wickets while Mitchell Starc, Scott Boland, and Cameron Green took two wickets each. Then, in their second innings, Australia scored 270 runs for eight wickets and declared. Thus, they set a huge target of 444 runs for Rohit Sharma and his men. In Australia’s second innings, Alex Carey scored 66* runs off 105 balls while for India, Ravindra Jadeja took three wickets. Then, India’s batters had a good start before crumbling again. They finished day four with 280 runs needed with seven wickets in hand.

On day five, Ajinkya Rahane and Virat Kohli came out to bat. But, Kohli added only five runs to his overnight score as he got out on 49 runs off 78 balls, including seven fours. Rahane scored 46 runs off 108 balls, including seven fours. Then, other batters failed miserably as India got bundled out for 234 runs in 63.3 overs. Nathan Lyon was the standout performer with four wickets. Thus, Australia defeated them by 209 runs and bagged the WTC title to their name. Meanwhile, it is India’s second consecutive WTC final loss in two editions. Travis Head won the Player of the Match award for scoring 181 runs in the match.
