Pakistan lost the first two matches in the super 12 stages of the tournament, which reduced their chances to make it to the next stage. They first lost to arch-rivals India and faced a massive upset in the next match against Zimbabwe.

However, the Men in Green bounced back and surprised everyone. They beat The Netherlands, South Africa, and Bangladesh to qualify for the semi-final. They then beat New Zealand to make it to the final. Unfortunately, England proved to be too strong for them on the night of the final.

India had lost their way at 31/4 chasing 160 until Kohli and Hardik Pandya resurrected the innings with a defiant stand. The required run rate made India's chase all but impossible until Kohli's twin sixes off Rauf changed the game. He scored 82* off 53 balls to lead India to a memorable victory.
