However, while turning the pages of the history books, there have been instances where the batters have completely taken the lead by outplaying the opposition bowlers. It is not a rare sight for batters to score centuries in the World Cup. But there are very few batters who have done it consistently at the highest level and scored the most runs.

In this article, we look at the list of players who scored the most runs in the World Cup

Australia's opening batter is the fifth-leading run-getter in the premier 50-over tournament and is on the verge of completing 1500 runs. Warner's 1438 runs came from just 26 innings and he will add more runs this year, with potentially three more innings to go for Australia in the 2023 edition. The southpaw is currently fourth in the 2023 WC run scorers list with 446 runs from 8 innings.

The 35-year-old crossed the milestone in this ongoing World Cup with a century against South Africa. Kohli's 1573 runs came from just 34 innings and he might be able to overtake Ponting this year with potentially three more innings to go for India in the 2023 edition.

Tendulkar holds numerous records in the ODI World Cup, one of which is the most runs. The legendary Indian batter has scored 2278 runs in 44 innings over a span of two decades from 1992-2011.
