When we talk about Indian broadcasting it has changed a lot over the years. When it comes to cricket, 2013 was the year of radical change when Star Sports took over the broadcasting revolution in India. The commentary was turning more and more vernacular in cricket as Star took the first step to introduce Hindi commentary to the viewers while playing a cricket match. From Hindi commentary, the number of languages widened and it never looked back from there.

At the start, Former Pakistan cricketers like Wasim Akram, Waqar Younis Shoaib Akhtar and the like were called to India to do Hindi commentary. Then later on more and more Indian commentators from all over started to do commentary in Hindi and other vernacular languages. On a special day of Hindi Diwas here are five Hindi commentators who have entertained cricket fans and viewers over the years.

Although Ajay Mehra may be a lesser-known name for viewers he has been commentating on domestic Indian cricket matches for a long period and is known for his crisp voice and wonderful articulation he makes it very easy for the viewer to understand what is going on in the game. He has also commented on Doordarshan for India matches and continues to be one of the ones who keeps commentating.

4. Virender Sehwag

Virender Sehwag is known for his witty lines and humour in the commentary box, if there is Sehwag around then a dose of laughter is guaranteed. He uses a lot of jokes and keeps the atmosphere light. Sehwag sometimes is famous for singing Bollywood numbers in the box and also during his playing days. He has also done commentary in Hindi and English for other platforms like Cricbuzz and others.

3. Jatin Sapru

Jatin Sapru started off as an anchor on the Star Sports side, he learnt all there was and then stepped into the box. Jatin primarily fulfils the role of a caller and gives a point of view of the game from the perspective of the fans. He also tries to hold the show together. Sapru has formed a great trio with Ashish Nehra and Irfan Pathan. Sapru revealed that Kapil Dev once told him to not get overawed in the commentary box and call the game as it is.

Aakash Chopra became a superstar when he had to start with Hindi commentary. Chopra is greatly loved by the current generation for his witty taglines and the way he uses a different way of conveying things in the box. Chopra's way with words is wonderful and also the way he has a different nickname for each batter or bowler strikes a chord with the fans.  He also has a YouTube channel that is a big hit amongst cricket followers.

Vivek Razzdan is a fusion of ancient and modern, old and new. Razzdan has a way of getting the emotions out through Hindi commentary and has a very poetic way of putting things through. One of Razzdan's very famous lines on commentary is "Tuta hai Gabba ka Ghammand" which translates into the proud and mighty Gabba comes crashing down when India beat Australia in a historic Test match at Border-Gavaskar Trophy in 2021 in Brisbane to take the series 2-1.
