England got the wickets of Jasprit Bumrah and Axar Patel early in the day. What followed it was the domination of England. The opening duo of Zack Crawley and Ben Duckett attacked the Indian spinners. It seemed like the batters of England came with clear plans. They were not just attacking the bowlers, but selectively targeted the spin duo of Ravi Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja.ย

It meant that India were on the back foot right from the start. Bumrah was brought on to the attack a lot in the 2nd session. It did prove to be a good move, as the star pacer helped India to claim two wickets with his reverse swing. Jonny Bairstow and Ben Stokes could not stay longer in the middle either. At a stage, India had England at 163/5 after getting rid of Stokes.

In his stay in the middle, Pope has scored 148(208) against India, which includes 17 fours. On the other hand, Foakes scored 34(81) and perished.
