The 36th match of the Indian T20 League 2022 between Bangalore and Hyderabad is currently being played at Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai. Hyderabad skipper, Kane Williamson asked Bangalore to bat first.

His decision proved a masterstroke as Faf du Plessis and Co., surprisingly, suffered a humiliating collapse in the first innings. Marco Jasen produced a dream spell in the power play as he accounted for the wickets of the top three batsmen inside the first 2 overs of the innings.

Jansen sent Faf du Plessis back to the hut on the second ball of the second over of the innings. He got out after scoring 5 runs in 7 balls. On the very next ball, Jansen had Virat Kohli edge the ball to the man at second slip.

South African seamer ensured he sent Anuj Rawat back to the hut on the last ball of the same over to leave RCB reeling at 8 for 3 in 2 overs. Glenn Maxwell hit two fours and showed some hope of recovery.

However, he too got out while trying to score a boundary off T Natarajan in the 5th over of the innings. Wickets kept falling at regular intervals thereafter and Bangalore, as a result, got all out for just 68 runs. Hyderabad need only 69 runs to win the match.

Well, this isn’t the lowest score ever posted by a team in the history of the Indian T20 League. In this article, we take a look at top 10 lowest scores in the history of the Indian T20 League.

Kochi has the 10th lowest score in Indian T20 League:

For the unversed, the Kochi were one of the two franchises which were added to the Indian T20 League for the 2011 season. They have the 10th lowest score in the history of the tournament.

Playing the 32nd match in the 2011 edition, Kochi restricted Deccan Chargers to 129 runs in the first innings. Kochi, in reply, were bundled out for 74 runs. At number nine is Punjab, who got bundled for just 73 against Pune during the 2017 edition of the tournament. Pune, in reply, chased down the score with 9 wickets in hand.

Bangalore also holds the record for having the 8th, 7th, and 6th lowest score in the history of the Indian T20 League. During the 2014 edition of the tournament, Bangalore were bowled out for just 70 runs against Rajasthan in what was the 14th game of the tournament. Virat Kohli, the skipper at that time, top-scored with 21 runs in 25 balls. Out of 11 players, 8 of them got out on single-digit scores.

Interestingly, Bangalore got bundled out for 70 runs twice in the Indian T20 League. The first match of the 2019 edition saw Bangalore getting bowled out for just 70 runs against Chennai.

Parthiv Patel was the only player who reached the double-figure mark in that game. The rest of the players got out on single-digit scores. Chennai chased down the score easily with 14 balls remaining.

Bangalore, on Saturday, registered the sixth-lowest total in the Indian T20 League after getting bundled out for just 68 runs at the hands of Hyderabad. The likes of Virat Kohli, Faf du Plesis, Maxwell and Karthik all failed to deliver. At the time of writing, Hyderabad are currently 37 for no loss and likely to chase down the score pretty easily.

Kolkata has the fifth-lowest total, while Bangalore have the lowest-ever

Kolkata had their worst day in the history of the league in the 38th match of the 2008 edition against Mumbai. Batting first, Kolkata were bowled out for a paltry 67-run total. Sourav Ganguly and Ajit Agarkar scored 15 runs each, while Salman Butt scored 13 in 13 balls.

Rest, all the players got out on single-digit scores. Mumbai chased down the score with 8 wickets in hand. Delhi have the third and fourth lowest totals to their name.

The 36th match of the Indian T20 League 2017 saw Delhi dishing out a pathetic performance with the bat. Delhi kept losing wickets at short intervals and, in the end, were bowled out for just 67 runs on the board. They exhibited a similar performance in the same season.

The 45th match of the 2017 edition saw Mumbai notching a huge score of 212 runs in the first innings. In pursuit of that, Delhi were bundled out for just 66 runs in the second innings, thereby losing the game by a massive margin of 146 runs. Delhi’s 67-run total in that game currently sits at third position in the list of lowest totals in the Indian T20 League.

At the second position on the list is Rajasthan. The inaugural season’s winner put in their worst performance with the bat against Rajasthan in the 2nd match of the 2009 edition of the Indian T20 League. Bangalore notched a below-par 133-run total in the first innings of that game.

In pursuit of that, Rajasthan were bundled out for 58 runs, thereby losing the game by 75 runs. The whole unit fell like a pack of cards when it seemed like they would chase down the score pretty easily.

Bangalore, who were bowled out for just 68 runs on Saturday, also holds the record for having the lowest ever score in the history of the Indian T20 League.

The 27th match of the 2017 edition saw Kolkata lock horns with Bangalore in the 2017 edition of the tournament. Sunil Narine’s 17-ball 34 helped Kolkata reach 131 runs in the first innings. At that stage, Bangalore were expected to chase down the score pretty easily.

However, Bangalore fell like a pack of cards in the second innings and were bundled out for just 49 runs. To date, it’s the lowest ever total in the history of the Indian T20 League.
