Australia won the game by a comprehensive margin of 111 runs. Now, if David makes the most of his chances against South Africa, he gives the Kangaroos a big-hitting option in the middle order ahead of the 2023 World Cup. David is no stranger to Indian pitches as he has enthralled Indian crowds with his big hitting for Mumbai Indians (MI) in the Indian Premier League (IPL).

He is an outstanding asset to Australian cricket - Mitchell Marsh

"Tim is already here for the T20 series which offers an opportunity to see how his game can translate to the one-day format," selector Tony Dodemaide said. "He will provide an extra option for us in that power role at the back end of an innings." David has played in 25 IPL matches and scored 418 runs with a strike rate of 177.87.

"The great thing about Tim is he's very level-headed. He knows his role in T20 cricket can be inconsistent," Mitchell Marsh said. "But his ability to win us matches is why he's in this team. he added. "We've got full faith. I want him to play however he wants to play every game. I know that if he does that, he'll win us games. He's an outstanding asset for Australian cricket." he added.

Australia's 15-member squad for the World Cup will be named next week. Any changes to the squads can be made until September 28. David can also bowl part-time off-spin. He has done a decent job of it for MI in the IPL.
