Chennai were below-par in the Indian T20 League 2022. They ended their season with just four wins in 14 games. One of the major reasons behind their poor run in the 2022 edition was the absence of Deepak Chahar.

The pacer was purchased for INR 14 crore during the mega auction. However, he couldn't feature in this edition due to an injury. Thus, Chennai need to have a good replacement for Chahar, just in case he suffers another injury during the next edition. Today, we shall be taking a look at three replacement options for Deepak Chahar if he doesn't play in the Indian T20 League 2023:
1) Rajvardhan Hangargekar:
Rajvardhan Hangargekar is arguably one of the most hyped youngsters in India. The pacer already showed glimpses of his potential during the U19 World Cup 2021. His USP is to hit the deck hard.
His ability to regularly clock the 140 kmph mark is commendable, to say the least. Besides, Like Chahar, he can bat as well. With age on his side, the 19-year-old can go on to be a long-term investment for the yellow army.
2) KM Asif:
KM Asif could go on to be a regular feature in Chennai's playing XI during the 2023 edition. He has a lot of potential. The pacer has already played three games for the four-time champions in the Indian T20 League. Despite not really setting the stage on fire, he can go on to be a valuable addition to Chennai.
Besides, with someone like MS Dhoni to guide him, Asif can further work on his abilities, and improve them. Besides, he too has the ability to bowl fast.
3) Dhawal Kulkarni:
Although Dhawal Kulkarni isn't a part of the Chennai-based franchise, they can always purchase him during the 2023 auction. Moreover, he is an experienced pacer, and has played in the cash-rich league for quite a while now. Kulkarni has picked 86 wickets in 92 games.
His bowling average and strike rate in the Indian T20 League are 28.77 and 20.88 respectively. His economy rate is 8.31, which is fairly decent in the shortest format of the game. Last but not the least, he can get the new ball to swing as well.
