Apparently, a short ball from the throw-down specialist hit Sharma’s forearm, which left him in deep pain. He, immediately, stopped training and was advised to apply an ice pack. Rohit was seen in pain as he watched the other players train from a distance.

Although Sharma came back in the nets to train, there could be a chance that he might be rested for the important encounter. In that case, we have listed out three players who can replace Rohit Sharma as the second opener against England:

3. Virat Kohli:

Virat Kohli, the run machine has been in ominous form. In 5 matches, he has notched three half-centuries and is currently the highest run-scorer in the tournament. In 5 matches, Kohli has 246 runs to his name at an astonishing average of 123.

Kohli could be a perfect replacement for Rohit Sharma if the latter misses out on the semi-final encounter. Kohli has opened for India and Bangalore franchise numerous times in the past and, thus, opening the innings for the team for the big game wouldn’t be a problem for him.

2. Rishabh Pant:

Rohit Sharma’s injury can also pave the way for Rishabh Pant’s inclusion as the opener for the match against England. Rishabh Pant played the last match against Zimbabwe but fell cheaply. However, he could prove to be a destructive commodity if gets the chance to open the innings. There is no denying that Pant can give the team a solid start in the power play if he gets going.

  1. Suryakumar Yadav:

Along with Virat Kohli, Suryakumar Yadav has also taken the world by storm with his masterclass batting display. He has made cricket fans fall in love with his batting in the competition. Yadav has consistently scored runs for the team with an outstanding strike rate of close to 200.

He currently bats at number four but, perhaps, won’t mind opening the innings as well. He has opened, once, for India in the recent past and couldn’t prove to be a game-changer if opens the batting against England, given the kind of form he is in.
