Team India suffered another humiliating loss in the second game of the ongoing five-match T20I series against West Indies in Providence on 6 August 2023. With that loss, the Men in Blue are currently trailing 2-0 with three more matches to go. But, it was India’s batters who failed to perform to their true potential once again, just like the series opener.

In the first match, they failed to chase down the 150-run target and managed only 145 runs in 20 overs. In the second game, they batted first and scored 152 runs for seven wickets in 20 overs. On both occasions, young star Tilak Varma was the only positive that came out as he scored 39 and 51 runs. However, after the loss in the second game, Team India skipper, Hardik Pandya shared his displeasure and criticised the batters badly during the post-match presentation ceremony.

“We were not good enough to get to 160+.” - Hardik Pandya

He said: "That was not a pleasing batting performance by us. The wickets were falling and the track was on the slower side. We were not good enough to get to 160+. The way Pooran has been batting makes it difficult to rotate spinners. Doesn't matter if someone takes the ball away or into him. The way he batted from two for two, it was incredible. Bishnoi at No. 8> It is what it is. The current combination that we have means we have to play with seven batters. Bowlers win you games. We have to figure out how we get batting strength from No. 8, 9, 10. Batters need to take more responsibility.

However, he heaped praises for Tilak and said: “The way he has been batting, that is something we are looking at. A left-hander at No.4 gives us a right-left combination throughout. The youngsters are coming with confidence and fearlessness." Hardik Pandya himself failed to make any mark in these last two matches with the bat. He scored 19 and 24 runs respectively in these matches.
