India and Australia faced off in the warm-up match of the 20-20 World Cup and the Men in Blue won the game by 6 runs. With regard to the match, India batted first and the opener KL Rahul started firing right from the start.
The batter flourished with the bat and gathered 57 runs to produce India a great start. India amassed 69 runs in the powerplay and it was Suryakumar Yadav who produced a stellar finish to the innings.
The right-handed batter scored a quickfire 50 of 33 balls and perished in the final over against Kane Richardson. The Rohit Sharma-led team ended up scoring 186 runs for the loss of 7 wickets at the end of 20 overs.
We learned that we need to be clinical towards the backend: Aaron Finch
The Australian batters got off to a good start and gave a stunning fight. The skipper Aaron Finch looked on fire and managed to cross the fifty-run landmark. However, barring the captain, no other batter stepped up for the Kangaroos and failed to show the intent to win the match.
Mohammed Shami, who bowled the final over, successfully defended 11 runs in the final as he bagged 3 wickets and a run out to bowl Australia out for 180 runs. Finch, who spoke after the match, admitted to the collapse towards the back end.
“We learned that we need to be clinical towards the backend, we didn't capitalize towards the end. We did drag them back after that blistering start from KL, happy with my own form,” Finch said after the match in the interview.
‘He's fantastic (on Kane Richardson), every opportunity he gets for Australia, he's there performing, that shows the depth of our pace bowling unit. 22nd will be a great day, looking to start off on a winning note, playing against New Zealand and at the SCG will be always special,” said the skipper further. India would be happy with the win and the grand return of Shami.
