Speaking of the match, all fans were eagerly waiting to see how the ‘Bazball’ approach would pan out while facing a quality team like the Aussies. But, after five days of action, the Aussies prevailed and it seemed that England might have t work on their approach in upcoming matches. The most questionable decision was when Ben Stokes decided to declare England’s first innings on day one for 393 runs for eight wickets while Joe Root was scoring runs for fun and batting on 118* runs.

After the loss, during the post-match presentation, Stokes said: "Very proud to take it to the end of day five like that, to have all the emotions, it was so up and down. It's another game we'll never forget we've been a part of. That's what we want to do, be part of great moments, and get people on the edge of their seats. Hopefully, we've managed to attract the attention of some more people to watch the Ashes for the next four games.” On declaration. He further added: “That was an opportunity to pounce on Australia, no batsman likes to go out for 20 mins at the end of the day, and I sensed an opportunity to take two wickets.”
