The much-awaited 20-20 World Cup 2022 has started with the ongoing inaugural clash between Sri Lanka and Namibia at GMHBA stadium in South Geelong. Speaking of the Indian team, they are placed in Group B with Pakistan, South Africa, and Bangladesh. Notably, the men in blue will start their campaign with the match against the arch-rivals Pakistan on the 23rd of October at MCG in Melbourne.
With said that, there are a lot of suggestions and advice pouring out for Rohit’s men from the former cricketers and experts of the game. In the same sequence, former Indian opener Gautam Gambhir has come up with a warning to the Indian team ahead of the start of their campaign in the 20-20 World Cup.
According to Gautam Gambhir, the recent champions of the Asia Cup 2022, Sri Lanka might be a threat to team India in their run to the coveted title of international cricket.
The way they are playing, the way they are probably peaking at the right time - Gautam Gambhir on Sri Lanka
“Sri Lanka, because of the kind of success they have had at the Asia Cup. The way they are playing, the way they are probably peaking at the right time. And with Chameera and Lahiru Kumara coming in, they probably have covered most of the places. They are going to be a threat and so they are going to take a lot of confidence into the T20 World Cup,” said Ganguly while to Star Sports.
Sri Lanka will play the qualifiers to play against India in the super-12 round of the tournament. The list of teams who are going to play in the qualifying round to fill the four vacant slots of the super-12 stage included the likes of former champions West Indies and Sri Lanka alongside Zimbabwe, Ireland, UAE, Namibia, Netherlands, and Scotland.
Coming back to the Sri Lankan team, they won the Asia Cup 2022 in an emphatic style with five successive wins in the tournament after losing only one match against Afghanistan at the beginning of their campaign in the continental tournament.
