Former Indian umpire Anil Chaudhary, who officiated in 89 international games, has stated that the Indian T20I side, led by Suryakumar Yadav, is way ahead of the other teams in the ongoing Asia Cup 2025 campaign.
Notably, India remained unbeaten in the ongoing eight-team showpiece event, defeating the UAE, Pakistan, and Oman in the group stage. Later, they continued their good run with a win over Pakistan by six wickets in the Super Four clash.
Speaking to ANI, Chaudhary also asserted that the shortest format of the game is unpredictable, as two or three players can completely change the game’s complexion with their heroics, and added that sometimes we can see individual performances also turning the game upside down.
“The way India is playing, there’s a huge gap between India and the other teams. T20 is such a game that it’s better not to predict too much. Sometimes, even two or three players can change the match. Sometimes individual performances can change the course of the game,” Anil Chaudhary told ANI.
Delving into the details of India’s most recent game against Pakistan in the Super Four round, Pakistan was tasked to bat first after losing the toss. Sahibzada Farhan’s 58 in 45 balls, with five fours and three sixes, propelled them to 171/5 in 20 overs.
Meanwhile, the batting all-rounder Shivam Dube (2/33) was the star bowler for India, while Kuldeep Yadav and Hardik Pandya got one wicket apiece.
In the chase, Abhishek Sharma’s 74 in 39 balls, with six fours and five sixes, and Shubman Gill’s 47 in 28 balls, with eight fours, took the game away from Pakistan in the first ten overs. Eventually, Tilak Varma’s 30* in 19 balls, with two fours and two sixes, helped India to win the game by six wickets.
Team India will next take on Bangladesh on Wednesday, September 24, in Dubai.
