Former Pakistan keeper-batter Kamran Akmal has come out all guns blazing to slam the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), asserting that the officials from PCB didn’t deserve to make it to the stage for the Champions Trophy 2025 presentation ceremony, citing the team’s poor performance in the competition.
Notably, after the conclusion of the showpiece event, the prize distribution ceremony didn’t have even one official from Pakistan, raising the eyebrows of many. Even the former Pakistani pacer Shoaib Akhtar questioned the same.
“The ICC showed us the mirror. The tournament’s director (Sumair) was there. He was available, and why wasn’t he in the ceremony? It is because we don’t deserve to be there. We are not playing good cricket. Minow teams have shown us the mirror,” Akmal said on his YouTube channel.
“No one discussed how Pakistan hosted the tournament. If we play such cricket, we will be treated like this. If you play for yourself, there will be no respect,” he added.
Controversy erupts over Pakistan officials not being part of CT 2025 prize distribution ceremony
It’s important to note that the PCB wasn’t happy with the ICC’s response on why no official from their board was present at the prize distribution ceremony. Interestingly, the BCCI president Roger Binny, New Zealand Cricket Director Roger Twose, and ICC Chairman Jay Shah marked their presence at the ceremony.
It’s worth noting that according to a report published on the NDTV website, a source from the Pakistan Cricket Board stated that the apex body had made final preparations for the board chief Moshin Naqvi to grace the event. However, the ICC had to change the plans when Naqvi couldn’t make it.
Moreover, the PCB has emphasized that the ICC had made numerous errors during the competition, citing Pakistan’s status as the host nation.
