'It was a relief' is what Virat Kohli said in the post-match conference after a thumping win over Namibia in the ongoing 20-20 World Cup. The Kohli-led India came with a lot of expectations for the showpiece event. They were billed as favourites to win the 20-20 World Cup but two back-to-back losses dented India’s hopes of qualifying for the semis. The team needed a few results to go in their way, which didn’t happen. Although India won three matches on the bounce, the damage was already done.
Nonetheless, Kohli walked away from the format with his held high. It was a bittersweet moment for Kohli and India as the emotions were running high. Yet, the 33-year-old was composed and didn’t let the emotions overpower him. Right from the coin toss to the post-match conference, Kohli was calm. The players too delivered a clinical performance against Namibia and gave their captain a fitting farewell.
Kohli finished his T20I career with 30 wins. He is just behind Asghar Afghan, MS Dhoni and Eoin Morgan in terms of most wins by a skipper in T20Is. In every game, Kohli played with passion and commitment. Now, with no burden of captaincy, Kohli can take a backseat, relax and just enjoy his batting.
Fans were also emotional as Kohli played his last game as T20I skipper and flooded Twitter with heartwarming posts.
