Virat Kohli is currently busy playing for the Bangalore franchise in the ongoing Indian T20 League 2023. However, he made a great start to the tournament as Kohli scored 82* runs off 49 balls in the first match against Mumbai. Now, he will be in action again when Bangalore will take on Kolkata in Kolkata.
However, the former team India and Bangalore skipper have a huge fanbase all around the globe. Out of affection, fans call him the ‘King’ of the cricketing world. However, he has earned that respect due to his surreal contribution to the game of cricket. Now, in a recent podcast show of the Bangalore franchise, the host asked Virat Kohli about how he feels every time people call him ‘King’.
“People tell me King out of love” - Virat Kohli
In reply to that, Kohli said that personally, he does not prefer it much. He also urged people not to say this along with his team’s slogan ‘ Ee Sala Cup Namdhe’. Virat Kohli said: “It’s sweet. I know why they are saying it, but I don’t prefer it. I like to be called by my own name, Virat. People tell me King out of love, but I personally don’t prefer it. Like ‘Ee Sala Cup Namdhe’, don’t say ‘King’”. Listening to such a statement, fans went crazy and shared their views on the social media platform.
After his match-winning knock against Mumbai, Kohli also claimed that Bangalore have been the third-most consistent team in the history of the Indian T20 League. They have qualified for the playoffs the most number of times just after Mumbai and Chennai. “ "I wanted to mention this for a while - after Mumbai who have 5 titles and Chennai who have 4 if I'm not wrong, we are the third team to have qualified the most times to the playoffs - 8 times. Take one game at a time and try to be a balanced side which we are and we would look to execute our plans as we did tonight (April 2)” Virat Kohli said.
