On 16 April 2023, Mumbai Indians (MI) locked horns with Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the ongoing IPL. As of now, MI have won only one game in their first three games. However, their bowling has been a concern for them so far. Before the tournament, pacers like Jasprit Bumrah and Jhye Richardson got ruled out of the tournament due to injuries.

So, fans were hoping to see Arjun Tendulkar in action this season as he came to this year’s IPL with some good performance in the domestic arena. MI bought Arjun for INR 30 Lakhs in the 2022 IPL mega auction. For this season, MI retained him also. But, still, he did not play a single match for the franchise.

Arjun Tendulkar replaced Rohit Sharma in the playing XI in IPL 2023

Before the tournament during the pre-tournament press, reporters asked MI skipper Rohit Sharma about Arjun’s chance to make his debut for the franchise. In reply to that, Rohit said: “Good question. Hopefully”. Head Coach, Mark Boucher said: "Arjun is just coming off from an injury. He is going to be playing tonight. Hopefully, we can see what he can do. I think he has been playing very good cricket, especially in terms of bowling, in the last 6 months. So yes, if we can have him available for selection, it will be pretty good for us".

Arjun Tendulkar had a good domestic season recently. He performed well with the help of his batting and left-arm bowling abilities. Ahead of this clash, Arjun was seen having intense practice sessions. Speaking of the match, Suryakumar Yadav came out for the toss and opted to bowl first after winning it. He said that Rohit Sharma missed the match due to a stomach bug. After that, it got confirmed that Arjun Tendulkar is finally getting the chance to don the MI jersey for the first time.
