There are several records in the game of cricket that have been made and broken over a period of time. Some have been broken easily while some have taken considerable time and effort to be broken. However, some records might either not be broken or are difficult to break.
These records have been made by the legends of the game who have left a great impact on the sport. The records will be remembered for a long time by the fans. In this listicle, we will discuss 10 ODI records that might not get broken in the near future.
ODI records that might not get broken
1. Sachin Tendulkar's highest number of Player-Of-The-Match awards
The legend has numerous records which are difficult to count. Some of them have been broken while some of them are on the verge of being broken. However, his record of 60 Player-Of-The-Series awards might not get broken. On top of that, he has won the award against every Test playing nation apart from Afghanistan and Ireland, who were inducted in 2018.
2. Joel Garner's career-best economy rate
The former West Indies pacer had an economy rate was 3.09 in the 50-over format. In this day and age where bowling economies of five and six are considered good, it is difficult for Garner's record to be broken.
3. Misbah Ul Haq's 5122 runs without a century
Former Pakistan skipper scored more than 5000 runs and is the only player to score this many runs without a hundred. The breaking of this record is far-fetched as no player in the right mind would like to miss their century.
4. Herschelle Gibbs 36 runs in an over
According to the playing conditions, a batter can only score 36 runs in one over. The former South Africa player did it in the World Cup 2007 game against the Netherlands. The only way this record can be broken is if the bowler is hit for sixes on all balls and bowls at least one extra in the over.
5. Sachin Tendulkar's 2016 fours
The 2011 World Cup winner hit 2016 fours in his career, and the current lot of players are not even close to it. Hitting fours in this format is not an easy task as fielders get stationed to stop the ball from going to the boundary.
6. Ricky Ponting's 230 games as skipper
The former Australia skipper led his team in 230 ODI games. The only two players close to him were Stephen Fleming (218) and MS Dhoni (200). Dhoni might have broken the record had he not left the job in early 2017. Currently, no player is close to breaking this record.
7. Australia's most World Cup wins
The team registered 25 wins in World Cups from 1999 to 2011. They also won three World Cup titles during this time. This record will be tough to break, given the volatile nature of the format.
8. Sachin Tendulkar's 15,310 runs as an opener
The master blaster made his debut in 189 and has a record 18426 ODI runs to his name. Out of them, 15,310 came as an opening batter. This number is looking extremely hard to achieve no matter how much the game becomes batter oriented.
9. Chaminda Vaas' eight wickets
The former Sri Lanka left-arm medium-pacer took eight wickets in a game against Zimbabwe back in 2001. This record was close to being broken when Shahid Afridi took 12/7 against the West Indies in 2013. However, he couldn't break the record as Mohammad Irfan took two wickets.
10. Rohit Sharma's 264
Sharma made the record in 2014 against Sri Lanka in Kolkata. The innings was a sheer dominance from him. Innings like these are hard to play which is why this record might remain untouched.
