Mumbai Indians (MI) and Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) squared off on May 16, 2023, during the ongoing IPL. Progress tournament’s 63rd game was played at Ekana Cricket Stadium. Before the match, LSG was in fourth place with 13 points after 12 games, while MI was in third with 14 points after 12 games.
It was a pivotal match for both sides to determine who would advance further in the playoff battle. Concerning the game, Rohit Sharma chose to bowl first after winning the toss. Deepak Hooda and Quinton de Kock opened the batting for LSG. But Hooda once more failed, scoring five runs off of seven balls.
Marcus Stoinis and Moshin Khan were the game winners, per Gautam Gambhir
De Kock then hit 16 runs, including two sixes, off 15 balls. After that, Krunal Pandya played a solid inning until he was injured and was removed after 42 balls and 49 runs. In that knock, he hit one four and one six. Prerak Mankad’s performance, however, was disappointing as he only managed a golden duck. On a difficult Lucknow pitch, Marcus Stoinis played a superb knock. With four fours and eight sixes in his 89* runs off 47 balls, Stoinis is still unbeaten. As a result, LSG scored 177 runs in 20 overs for three wickets. Jason Behrendorff claimed two wickets for MI in four overs, for 30 runs. Additionally, Piyush Chawla claimed one wicket.
Ishan Kishan and Rohit Sharma responded by coming out to open, giving their team a strong start. MI scored 58 runs in six overs without losing a wicket. Rohit was out for 37 runs off 25 balls, including one four and three sixes, for 90 runs in 9.4 overs, the first wicket they lost. Ishan Kishan was eventually dismissed after making 59 runs off just 39 balls, including eight fours and one six. Also failing miserably for seven runs off of nine balls was Suryakumar Yadav. Other batters fought valiantly after that, but they only scored 172 runs for five wickets in 20 overs. Therefore, LSG prevailed by a score of 5 runs.
Later, Gautam Gambhir took to Twitter to praise his players. Especially Marcus Stoinis and Moshin Khan. He wrote, ‘The two Ms – Marcus and Mohsin! Breathtaking performance #LSG‘. However, fans quickly noticed his wordplay targeting MS Dhoni and trolled him brutally.
