Delving into the details of the game, India batted first and posted 193/6 in 20 overs, courtesy of Shivam Dube's 66-run knock off 31 balls with four fours and six sixes. In response, the Netherlands scored 176/7 in 20 overs, losing the game by 17 runs. Varun Chakravarthy was the wrecker-in-chief with a three-wicket haul in his three-over spell.

“We have ticked a lot of boxes. Even when you win, you learn a lot of things, and we did today. We might be in a similar situation again, but it’s important for the batters to understand their responsibility. We have firepower later in the order. One or two players might have a great day, but we need contributions from everyone,” Suryakumar Yadav said in the post-match presentation.

Furthermore, Surya went on to laud Shivam Dube’s exceptional knock in the middle overs as the all-rounder scored a strike rate of 212.9 to win the player of the match award. Additionally, the skipper asserted that it’s a good headache to have in terms of selection ahead of the Super 8 round.

“When he played in Vizag, he had another good innings. He wanted the Player of the Match award that day too, but for us to reach 190 tonight, that knock was amazing,” he added.

“Sometimes it is a good headache to have. We have a lot of options. On any given day, depending on what the wicket demands, they can chip in. I’m happy with the way things are moving,” he concluded.

India will next take on South Africa in Ahmedabad on Sunday, February 22.
