Former India cricketer Sunil Gavaskar has opposed the introduction of the Bronco test to gauge the fitness of Indian team cricketers. He has urged the BCCI to reconsider their decision and stated that every cricketer is different and tests should be tailored as per needs.

Everyone is interested in the BCCI's (Board of Control for Cricket in India) proposal to use the bronco test to choose the men's squad players. Athletes are pushed to push their cardiovascular limitations during this test.

Although the Bronco test is new to cricket, rugby has long employed it as a high-intensity running exercise. Both cricket fans and some players have expressed differing opinions on the BCCI's strategy, with many criticizing the use of such a challenging test.

Sunil Gavaskar calls for role-specific fitness strictures

Sunil Gavaskar, the former captain of India, joined the chorus and expressed his opposition to the Bronco test, saying that it is unjust to choose players based on it.

"While it is fine to have these tests to get a general idea of where a player needs to strengthen their body, having them decide selection to the national team is a tad too much. Every person's body is different, so having one standard for everybody in the squad is well-nigh impossible.

There has to be consideration given to the player's specialty and allowances made for that. For example, a wicketkeeper, who is constantly on the move the whole day, requires a different fitness level than the others," Gavaskar wrote in Sportstar.

Gavaskar went on to say that no test is more important than a player's mental power when it comes to representing his country.

"The most important test for playing at the highest level for your country cannot be measured, as it's between the two ears. And the clincher for me is when the heart is opened, it should have only two words, 'Indian cricket,' and nothing else," Gavaskar stated.

Several Indian cricketers, including Rohit Sharma, have undergone the fitness tests required for the upcoming cricketing season, including the Bronco test.
