Even though India won the game by seven wickets, Suryakumar's poor performance sparked intense debate among both fans and experts. Suryakumar was dismissed after attempting to knock the ball over fine leg with his favorite pick-up shot, but Ottneil Baartman caught him off Lungi Ngidi's bowling.

Legendary India batter Sunil Gavaskar was extremely critical of Suryakumar's shot choice after the dismissal, stating that the pickup shot should be kept in "cold storage" and utilized only when necessary.

“It has been a very, very productive shot for him. Now, when you are not in form, it's only gone up in the air instead of going the distance, and well inside the boundary. So maybe, until he starts to get going, he should look to keep that shot in cold storage. Because it's getting him out and India doesn't require Suryakumar Yadav scoring only 12 runs,” Gavaskar said on commentary.

India's T20I captain, Suryakumar Yadav, acknowledged his lack of runs on Sunday, but he did not consider it a sign of poor form, stating that runs will arrive sooner rather than later.

With the exception of his 75 against Bangladesh in Hyderabad on October 24 and an undefeated 47 against Pakistan during the Asia Cup in September, it increased his streak of low scores to 21 innings.

I've been batting beautifully in the nets. When the runs have to come, they'll come. Not out of form, definitely out of runs,” said Suryakumar in the post-match presentation.
