“What I've always admired about him is his mindset” - Sudharsan on Kohli ahead of England Tour

India’s tour of England is all set to begin on 20 June 2025, with an exciting five-match Test series lined up for the fans. B Sai Sudharsan, who recently won the Orange Cap with 759 runs for Gujarat Titans (GT) in IPL 2025, has now joined the Indian team. According to reports, there is a high chance that he could make his Test debut in the series opener.

Ahead of the much-anticipated series, Sudharsan spoke to The Times of India, where he expressed his admiration for former India Test cricketer Virat Kohli’s approach to the game. Kohli, who recently led Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) to their maiden IPL title, continues to inspire many young cricketers. 

Reflecting on Kohli’s mindset and whether he spoke to the veteran after that victory, Sudharsan said: "I just congratulated him after the final, it was a very special moment for him. But I've had a lot of conversations in previous years. What I've always admired about him is his mindset, the obsession that he has for the sport. I have spoken with him regarding those and how dealt with situations when he was not getting a lot of runs and finding it difficult. I think, as a cricketer, those are the times that you learn most, so I had conversations about that." 

A new era in Indian red-ball cricket is also set to begin with the newly appointed Test captain, Shubman Gill. Interestingly, Sudharsan shared several strong opening partnerships with Gill for GT during the recent IPL season.

Speaking about Gill in the same interview, Sudharsan said: "The biggest thing is the mindset, self-belief, the trust that he has in his ability. I've seen how he manages himself when he's not getting runs — that understanding of the game and life to maintain consistency. Then there are technical discussions as well which are also helpful." 

All eyes will now be on the young southpaw, as fans hope he can make a strong impression in England. Notably, Sudharsan had a stint with Surrey in County cricket last year, and that experience is expected to play a key role in his performance in the upcoming Test series.
