Stats: Top 5 fastest fifties in IPL history

The Indian Premier League is a notable T20 cricket league known for its entertaining contests. One of the main reasons for the excitement of the IPL is the powerful batting. Nothing excites the audience more than a boundary and the success of their favorite players.

In the dynamic style of the Indian Premier League (IPL), fortunes can turn rapidly within a few overs, making it extremely difficult for teams to launch a comeback after falling behind heavily. Sometimes a batter may change gears at an incredible rate, leaving no room for the opposition to manage the flow of runs.

Fast starts by batters give huge advantages to their teams, and with that in mind, we take a look at the five fastest fifties ever in the Indian Premier League (IPL).

In number 5 comes Sunil Narine of Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), as he made a 15-ball fifty against RCB in IPL 2017. Chasing 159 runs to win the match in Bengaluru, Narine and Chris Lynn went after the bowling, scoring 105 runs in 6.1 overs. Narine made 54 in 17 balls with 4 sixes and 6 fours.

At no. 4 is Yusuf Pathan, who made a 15-ball fifty for KKR against SRH in IPL 2014. Chasing 161 runs to win, KKR got a decent start with Robin Uthappa making 41 but lost wickets regularly. But it was Yusuf Pathan's madness, who single-handedly won the match for KKR, scoring 72 in 22 balls with 7 sixes and 5 fours.

Pat Cummins comes in at number 3 with a 14-ball fifty that got KKR an astonishing win over MI in IPL 2022. MI had posted 161/4 with Suryakumar Yadav scoring a fifty. But in the chase, despite Venkatesh Iyer’s 50, KKR faltered until Pat Cummins took the reins. He slammed 56 in 15 balls with 4 fours and 6 sixes, reaching his fifty in 14 balls and winning the match for KKR.

The second spot goes to KL Rahul, who was the first batter to score a 14-ball fifty in IPL. He did for Kings XI Punjab (now Punjab Kings) against DC in IPL 2018. DC made 166/7 with Gautam Gambhir scoring 55 and Chris Morris providing a strong finish. In reply, captain KL Rahul’s 16-ball 51 gave Punjab the best start as he struck 6 fours and 4 sixes and led his team to a 6-wicket win.

The fastest fifty ever in IPL was hit by Yashasvi Jaiswal, in 14 balls for RR against KKR. Set 150 to win, RR needs a quick win, and Jaiswal went after the KKR bowlers from the start. He smacked a 13-ball fifty and made 98* in 47 balls with 5 sixes and 12 fours. RR won the match by 9 wickets and 41 balls remaining.

Jaiswal’s 13-ball fifty remains the fastest in IPL history, challenging the other batters to showcase their talent.
