The ninth edition of the Champions Trophy is set to begin on February 19, 2025. Defending champions Pakistan will serve as the primary host, but due to political tensions, India will play all its matches in Dubai. This arrangement emerged after extensive discussions, resulting in a hybrid hosting model.
Over the years, the Champions Trophy has witnessed remarkable batting performances that have captivated global cricket fans. West Indies legend Chris Gayle leads the all-time run-scoring charts with 791 runs in 17 innings, averaging 52.73 at a strike rate of 88.77.
He was the highest scorer in the 2006 edition, amassing 474 runs in eight innings and playing a key role in the Windies' runner-up finish. Gayle also holds the record for the most fours (101) and is second for the most sixes (15) in tournament history.
Sri Lankan great Mahela Jayawardene is second on the list, with 742 runs in 21 innings at an average of 41.22 and a strike rate of 84.80. Despite five fifties, Jayawardene never managed a century in the tournament.
India’s Shikhar Dhawan ranks third, with 701 runs in just 10 innings at an impressive average of 77.88 and a strike rate of 101.59. Dhawan has three centuries and three fifties to his name in the tournament.
He was the leading run-scorer in both the 2013 (363 runs at 90.75) and 2017 (338 runs at 67.60) editions. India won the 2013 title and finished as runners-up in 2017, with Dhawan playing a crucial role in both campaigns.
Kumar Sangakkara, another Sri Lankan legend, is fourth with 683 runs in 21 innings at an average of 37.94 and a strike rate of 71.36. In the 2013 edition, Sangakkara was the third-highest scorer, contributing 222 runs in four innings at an average of 74.00.
In fifth place is former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly, who scored 665 runs in 11 innings at an average of 73.88 and a strike rate of 83.12. Ganguly was the top scorer in the 2000 edition, amassing 348 runs in four innings at an average of 116.00, helping India finish as runners-up.
Ganguly is one of only four players (along with Gayle, Dhawan, and Herschelle Gibbs) to score at least three centuries in the tournament’s history.
