Stats: Fewest deliveries taken to reach 300 Test wickets

The World Test Championship (WTC) 2025 Final is going on at Lord’s, and the match is nicely poised between Australia and South Africa ahead of Day Three. But on Day Two of the clash, the Aussie skipper, Pat Cummins, etched his name in the history books by reaching the 300-wicket mark in Test cricket.

After getting bundled out for 212 in their first innings, Australia made a stunning comeback by dismissing the Proteas for just 138, securing a 74-run lead. Cummins led from the front, grabbing six wickets for 28 runs in 18.1 overs.

With this, he also became the eighth Australian player to take 300 or more Test wickets. It even turned out to be the best bowling figures by a captain at Lord’s.

After such a heroic performance, as quoted by the ICC, Cummins said: "It's way more than I could have asked for. Three hundred is a really big number and I have battled a few injuries and niggles and got through and played well in different conditions, so I am pretty happy."

"When the ball got a little bit softer there wasn't too much in it, but it feels like the odd ball is nipping a little bit. It feels like if you bowl well it is tough to score runs, so there is a bit in it for both (batters and bowlers)," he further added.

Cummins also added his name to the top five bowlers who have taken the fewest deliveries to reach 300 Test wickets. He is currently in fifth spot with 13,725 balls taken in 68 Tests for Australia.

South Africa’s great Dale Steyn is in third place, having taken 12,605 balls in 61 Tests, and Allan Donald is in fourth with 13,672 balls in 63 Tests, respectively. Former Pakistan pacer and legend Waqar Younis is second with 12,602 balls in 65 Tests.
