“Start moaning” - Sunil Gavaskar takes a brutal dig at England after their elimination from Champions Trophy

Former Indian captain and commentator Sunil Gavaskar has taken a brutal dig at the England team after they got eliminated from the ongoing ICC Champions Trophy 2025, which is taking place in Dubai and Pakistan.

Gavaskar stated that England has the tendency to play the blame game instead of improving their on-field performances. He asserted that the Buttler-led side would start moaning once they lost a game.

Moreover, Gavaskar had also added that England might blame Team India for playing all of its matches in Dubai. Notably, Jos Buttler went on to step down as a white-ball skipper after the team’s elimination.

"They will still come and start moaning the next morning. See they cannot lose. If they lose there has to be an excuse and the excuse cannot be that they weren't better that day or the other team was better, they will start blaming everything. They will start blaming India also because India are playing all their matches in Dubai and why are we not playing our matches at one venue," Gavaskar said during a conversation on Ten Sports.

Notably, England suffered an eight-run defeat to Afghanistan to get eliminated from the showpiece event. Afghanistan opening batter Ibrahim Zadran’s 177 with the bat and Azmatullah Omarzai’s five wickets were crucial in scripting history for the Asian side.

Interestingly, under Jos Buttler’s captaincy, England suffered 15 defeats in their last 21 ODIs. With Buttler stepping down, ECB stated that the keeper-batter will continue to make himself available for selection as a player.

It’s important to note that England failed to retain T20 World Cup and ODI World Cup titles under Buttler. He will be seen donning the captaincy hat in the team’s final group game against South Africa on Saturday, March 1.
