Starc to miss NSW fixture against Victoria after his father’s demise

Mitchell Starc

Australian speedster Mitchell Starc won’t take part in New South Wales’s fixture against Victoria after his father, Paul passed away after a long battle with cancer. Along with Starc, his wife Alyssa Healy has also pulled out of the New South Wales next two games in the Women’s National Cricket League. Also, Steve Smith won’t be available for the match after feeling some discomfort in his elbow.

“I have had some pain in my elbow that’s gradually worsened since the Test against India at the SCG and it requires some rest and rehab,” Smith was quoted as saying in ESPN.

Smith, however, was hopeful that he’ll be fit for the upcoming games in Adelaide.

“I am hoping I will be right to travel with the Blues to Adelaide for our games down there next week but we will have to see how it responds to treatment,” he added. Smith was recently picked to play for Delhi Capitals in the IPL.

After two major losses, there is some respite for the New South Wales Shield as Pat Cummins is all set to make his first appearance of the season. Hazlewood has been given some rest while Jason Sangha, who impressed in the recently concluded Big Bash League has been added to the 13 man squad.

New South Wales Shield squad: Peter Nevill (capt), Sean Abbott, Harry Conway, Trent Copeland, Pat Cummins, Moises Henriques, Daniel Hughes, Nick Larkin, Nathan Lyon, Kurtis Patterson, Jason Sangha, Daniel Solway, Liam Hatcher
