In a bid to hand justice to the Easter Sunday attack victims and the people of Sri Lanka, who are currently facing economic crises, a 24-hour hunger strike by the protestors is currently underway in the Island nation.
As per recent reports, Sri Lankan cricketer, Dhammika Prasad also joined the protest on Friday to demand justice from the country’s leaders. For the unversed, the protest is currently being staged at the Galle Face esplanade, which is located near President Gotabaya Rajapaksa’s secretariat.
Notably, in the Easter Sunday attack, which took place in 2019, had killed as many as 269 people.
“I want justice for all innocent victims of the bombings,” Prasad told reporters.
Sri Lankan cricketer, Dhammika Prasad has represented Sri Lanka in 25 Test matches, picking 75 wickets at an average of 36. Besides, he also played 24 ODIs and picked 32 wickets at 30.5.
The Easter Sunday bombings and its investigations have caused many political headlines with the Catholic church accusing the government of a cover-up.
It has been learnt that the Cardinal Malcolm Ranjith is currently leading the protest in a bid to seek justice for the victims. The 74-year old has accused the government for not taking up the investigation seriously only for their political needs.
The protest has been going on for last six days and has now entered the seventh day. More and more youth are joining the protest in bid to raise the voice against the injustice. Another major reason for the protest has been the shortage of essentials due to major economic crises in the country.
The protestors demand the resignation of the President Gotabaya for his incompetence in handling the island’s worst-ever economic crisis. Sri Lanka is currently facing a 12-hour power cuts and extreme shortage of food, fuel and other essential items including medicines.
