Sri Lanka announce 24 man squad for England tour; no place for Matthews and Chandimal yet

Amidst the tussle between the players and Sri Lanka Cricket Board over the new contract system, the Sri Lanka Board has announced the 24 member squad for the limited-overs tour to England.

Amidst the tussle between the players and Sri Lanka Cricket Board over the new contract system, the Sri Lanka Board has announced the 24 member squad for the limited-overs tour to England. The Islanders are scheduled to play three T20Is and as many ODIs against England later this month. The experienced quartet of Avishka Fernando, Nuwan Pradeep, Oshada Fernando and Kasun Rajitha has been recalled in the squad after being left out against Bangladesh.

The Kusal Perea led Sri Lanka have also included four uncapped players, Dhananjaya Lakshan, Ishan Jayaratne, Charith Asalanka and Shiran Fernando, in the squad. Notably, the senior members like Angelo Mathews, Dinesh Chandimal and Lahiru Thirmanne have still not been considered by the Sri Lanka selectors. As per the Lakehouse Daily news, the 24 man squad is subjected to approval by Sri Lanka's Sports Ministry.

Sri Lanka will begin their UK tour with a practice game on June 18 against Kent. They will then take on Sussex in another T20 practice game on June 20. Sri Lanka will cross swords with the hosts in back to back T20Is on June 23 and June 24 in Cardiff. The final T20I will be played in Southampton on June 26. The ODI series will commence on June 29 in Chester le Street before the teams move to London for the second ODI on July 1. Sri Lanka will sign off their England tour on July 4 in Bristol.
