“There should’ve been a little bit of fight from the top-order” - Sourav Ganguly on India’s Lord’s Test defeat

Former Indian captain and analyst Sourav Ganguly has stated his disappointment after the Indian team, led by Shubman Gill, failed to chase down the 193-run target on the fifth and final day of the Lord’s Test.

Speaking at the Indian Racing League & F4 India Championship event on Tuesday, July 15, Ganguly asserted that while Jadeja had put up an exceptional effort with the willow, the top-order should’ve put up a little bit of fight to take a 2-1 lead over England.

“A little bit disappointed. With the way India batted in this series, they should have got this 190. When you saw Jadeja fight and score the runs, batting quality in this team and they will be more disappointed than I am because it was an opportunity to get 2-1 up in the series against England. I am sure that they will be disappointed not getting to 190 especially with the quality of batsmanship they have in that dressing room,” Ganguly said at the event.

“If there was even a little bit of fight from the top, this game would have been India’s match, he added.

Furthermore, Dada also praised the Indian all-rounder Jadeja, who is currently topping the ICC all-rounders rankings in Tests, for putting up impressive performances with both bat and ball over the years and turning out to be an important player of the team.

“Jadeja has been exceptional, he is going to continue to play for India as long as he bats and performs like this. He has been around for a long time. He has played some 80 Test matches and more than 200 one-day games. You can see him batting, bowling, and fielding. He is a special player and his batting has really improved over the years with experience. He is a special player and very important part of this team,” he stated.

Team India will next take on England in the fourth Test of the five-match series, starting on Wednesday, July 23, at Old Trafford in Manchester.
