“Pakistan will not be able to handle the pressure for long time” - Sourav Ganguly expects IPL to resume soon

Former Indian captain and commentator Sourav Ganguly has backed the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) decision to suspend IPL for a week due to the ongoing cross border tensions between India and Pakistan.

Notably, the IPL 2025 contest between Delhi Capitals and Punjab Kings came to a halt in the first innings after a technical floodlight failure. Later, BCCI officials stated that the game had to be called off due to the escalating tensions between both countries.

While the game came to a halt, players were taken to safer places via buses and a special train on Friday. That said, Ganguly feels Pakistan couldn’t withstand India’s pressure for a long time and strongly expects IPL 2025 to resume very soon.

“There is a war-like situation in the country, and the BCCI had to do this as there are so many Indian and foreign players. Let’s hope the IPL restarts soon, as an important stage of the tournament is around the corner,” Ganguly stated.

With IPL being hosted at the venues like Dharamsala, Chandigarh, Delhi, Rajasthan and Jaipur, Ganguly backed BCCI’s decision to halt the tournament for a brief period.

“BCCI had to do this, especially [for] Dharamshala, Chandigarh, Delhi, Rajasthan, Jaipur… It is necessary to do this according to the situation that happened last night. With time, it will get better and matches will also be played. BCCI will complete the IPL, and this situation will end very soon as Pakistan will not be able to handle the pressure for a long time,” Ganguly added.

To make things interesting, the England Cricket Board (ECB) has offered the Indian cricket board to resume the Indian Premier League 2025 season in England. However, BCCI is expecting to resume the season in cities like Kolkata, Chennai, Hyderabad, and Bengaluru
