‘So many blunders’- fans lash out at India for sending Axar Patel ahead of Dinesh Karthik in the first T20I against England

With Dinesh Karthik in the line-up, sending Patel ahead of him didn’t look like a great decision from the team management for many critics.

India registered a comfortable 50-run win in the first T20 international against England on Thursday. Rohit Sharma and Co. batted first and notched a formidable score of 198 runs in the first innings. India played in aggressive manner right throughout the course of the innings.

Rohit Sharma provided a quick start with a 14-ball 24-run knock. Later, the likes of Deepak Hooda (33 off 17) and Suryakumar Yadav (39 off 19) also made valuable contributions.

However, both of them got out inside 12 overs of the innings. At 11.4 overs, India had lost 4 wickets for 126 runs. At that stage, everyone was expecting Dinesh Karthik to come out in the middle but India, instead sent Axar Patel at number six.

Hardik Pandya and Axar Patel added 45 runs for the fifth wicket before the latter got back to the hut in the 17th over. Hardik Pandya was the aggressor, while Patel only played as a second fiddle to him. Patel scored 17 runs in 12 balls. Dinesh Karthik came into bat in the 17th over and the fans didn't like the move.

Karthik has been in outstanding form of late. And, with him in the line-up, sending Patel ahead of him didn’t look like a great decision from the team management for many critics. A lot of them took to Twitter to bash the Indian Cricket Board and the team management for sending Axar Patel ahead of Dinesh Karthik.

Nevertheless, India managed to post a par score of 198 runs in the first innings. In reply, England were bundled out for 148, thereby falling 50 runs short. Hardik Pandya scored a fifty in the first innings and took 4 wickets in the second innings. He was awarded the player of the match. Besides, the likes of Arshdeep Singh, Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Yuzvendra Chahal also made great returns.

The second T20 international is slated to be played on 9th June 2022 in Birmingham.
