After a string of controversies and dismal performances against various top teams, Sri Lanka finally managed to put in a good performance against India and won the T20I series 2-1. This timely series victory in the shortest format for the Lankan Lions came after 2019. Naturally, Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) was elated with the team’s brilliant performance and lauded the efforts of the players. In order to recognize this victory, the Executive Committee of Sri Lanka cricket has decided to award a sum of USD 1,00,0000 for the national team.

Over the past two years, the Sri Lankan team failed to even put up a fight against quality teams that led to anger and outrage on the board’s part. However, they looked convincing against India and showed signs of considerable improvement during the six-ball white games.

“The Executive Committee of Sri Lanka Cricket lauded the effort of the players, coaches, and support staff for bringing this much-needed victory, which it believes will augur well for the national team going forward,” said SLC in an official statement.

It was leg-spinner Waninudu Hasaranga’s spell of four wickets for nine runs in the third T20I that put the brakes on India’s run-scoring. The leg-spinner was simply phenomenal and bowled to his strengths. Indian batters failed to pick up his googlies and succumbed to his spin bowling. Apart from him, Dhananjaya de Silva too played two crucial knocks of unbeaten 40 and 23 in the second and third T20Is respectively to help the Lankan Lions win the series. Sri Lanka's confidence will be skyrocketing after this win. They will look to better their performance when they host South Africa for limited overs series in September.
