After his on-field antics on the third day of the Lord’s Test, the Indian captain Shubman Gill was at the center of attention as he came out to bat on the opening day of the Manchester Test in the ongoing Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy.

However, his stay turned out to be a shorter one as he played only 23 balls, scoring 12 runs with a four before getting out in a brain-fade manner off Ben Stokes. The English skipper, who was bowling in the 50th over of the opening day, got one to nip back to Gill as the batter left the ball to the keeper

However, the cherry did enough to brush Gill's pads as the bowler and the fielders went up for a big appeal. The umpire confidently raised the finger. Though Gill decided to review, the ball was hitting the off-stump, and he was eventually deemed LBW.

Former England batter and analyst Jonathan Trott termed that the Indian Test captain has suddenly gone from being a batter to a villain. He asserted that the first two Tests were about Gill the batter, but in the third and fourth Tests, it’s more about how he was leading the team.

“Suddenly, he has gone from being a batter to being a villain, as he was portrayed in Day 3. Attention went from his batting to how he was leading the side. The reception that he got today is undoubtedly something to do with the way he carried himself,” Trott said on JioHotstar.

“The first two Tests were about Shubman Gill, the batter, but since then, he's made a target of himself. You're A, a good side, and B, have to face hostility. We need to see how long it takes Gill to bounce back from this,” he added.

Notably, Gill still holds the first place in the run-scoring charts with 619 runs from seven innings in the ongoing Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy.
