Shubman Gill has been excellent, very calm and composed: Sachin Tendulkar

Former Indian legend Sachin Tendulkar has heaped praise on the new Indian Test captain, Shubman Gill, for his measured and well-thought-out decisions on the field after taking over as captain from Rohit Sharma on the England tour.

Notably, Gill has been in tremendous form with the willow, scoring 585 runs from four innings in the ongoing England Test series, including three centuries, which propelled India to a 336-run win in the Birmingham Test and level the series 1-1 before moving to Lord’s. Tendulkar went on to praise the new skipper for his calm and composed approach.

“He's been excellent - very calm and composed. I strongly believe that the rest of the ten players respond to his decisions and leadership. The choices he’s made have been measured and well thought out,” Tendulkar told Star Sports.

While Gill started the series with an exceptional 147-run knock in Leeds, he couldn’t drive his side to victory as England managed a five-wicket comfortable win. However, his twin centuries - 269 and 161 - in Birmingham ensured India secured a comprehensive win.

Further, Tendulkar asserted that Gill’s batting has been complementing his captaincy perfectly well, adding that when a captain is in good form, it impacts the decision-making positively, terming his heroics special.

“His batting complements his captaincy as well. When a captain is in good form, it positively impacts decision-making. You need to be in the right frame of mind to make crucial calls, and he’s clearly there. He’s been batting brilliantly,” Tendulkar added.

“As the opposition, you'd normally try to target weaknesses in a batter’s technique, but right now, he’s been remarkable. What I’ve seen from him has been special,” Tendulkar stated.
