The runners-up of the 2020 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL), Delhi Capitals are one of the prime contenders for winning the 14th edition of the T20 extravaganza. However, ahead of the renowned tournament, the Capitals have been dealt with a massive setback as their skipper, Shreyas Iyer might miss the entire season of the Indian Premier League. Iyer dislocated his shoulder while fielding in the first One Day International of the three-match series against England in Pune, which the hosts won by 66 runs. It is learned that Shreyas Iyer is likely to undergo surgery in the first week of April. After the surgery, the 26-year-old can be out of action for 4-5 months and can return to competitive cricket in the month of September.

"Not just the IPL (2021), I think Shreyas will take about 4-5 months for recovery. So a realistic assessment will be the home T20I series against New Zealand and South Africa in September.  "He will undergo surgery so he will miss the IPL and England tour (August). I am also told by sources that the surgery will take place at the end of the first week of April," Boria Majumdar, India Today's Consulting Editor Sports, said on Sports Today.

Delhi will start their campaign in IPL 2021 with a game against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) on April 10 at the Wankhede stadium in Mumbai but before the tournament, the franchise will have to force some changes in their planned playing XI and will have to hunt for a new skipper in the absence of Shreyas Iyer.
