Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) locked horns with Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the ongoing IPL on 17 April 2023. But, RCB failed to win the game by eight runs in front of their home crowd. RCB skipper, Faf du Plessis had a good game with the bat as he scored 62 runs off 33 balls, including five fours and four sixes.

His 126-run partnership with Glenn Maxwell changed the momentum for RCB. But, after them, other batters failed to continue with the required run rate and they lost the match. But, during the chase, Faf du Plessis was seen having some treatment on his ribs which he might have injured during fielding. So, he went shirtless, and his ripped physique went viral. Seeing that, fans went crazy and slammed team India and MI skipper Rohit Sharma over his poor fitness.

The incident took place during the 13th over RCB’s chase. Du Plessis was seen getting heavily strapped around his stomach. During fielding, he was not on the field for the last few overs, and Gleen Maxwell was doing the captaincy duties. Meanwhile, Rohit Sharma has always been criticised heavily for his poor fitness over the years. Even, during this ongoing IPL, he got trolled over an image of him while playing a pull short as his tummy was clearly visible. However, Faf du Plessis shared his injury during the post-match presentation.

He said: “Early on while fielding, I thought I just winded my rib but as the innings went on I felt discomfort. I tried to avoid taking my shirt off but had to do it in the end, sorry boys. Personally, I got stiff and lost some power. I'd have liked to have gone harder in the middle period. I tried but couldn't keep up.” Then, he shared his insights from the defeat against CSK. “I thought we batted perfectly. The last five overs were set up well, I thought DK would clinch it but those lost four overs we let it slip. At the toss, I said 200 was par, it was 10-15 too many, We went over the short boundary, off Dube. It was just one of those wickets where you bowl the first few balls and go, 'this is a great wicket,” Faf du Plessis concluded.
